Web design best practices

Made with web design best practices

The framework I use for all projects allows for all the functionality that is required specific to your project. I have chosen the WordPress content management system for both its user-friendly back-end and its enormous development scope. I build all templates with best practice HTML and CSS and use the latest implementation of HTML5 and CSS3 technologies where appropriate. I also use Javascript solutions such as jQuery to create dynamic content without the need to use Flash.

Forms can be easily created and updated via a powerful form plugin which can be configured to email form submissions to your email address, as well as storing the form entries for easy viewing in the website back-end.

I also code the website templates with search engine optimisation (SEO) best practices in mind, which means I ensure that the webpage structure has the appropriate headings and meta data information available where applicable. This means that if a page is created in the back-end, the title given to the page will be a “heading1″ (h1) when published to ensure that search engines find the important information in the optimum format. In addition to this, I use a WordPress plugin that allows the website owner to created customised page titles and descriptions (the information that appears in Google results). I have written the guide Optimise Your Page with All in One SEO Pack about using this feature. The presence of an XML sitemap is another best practice for ensuring search engines can find the content on a website efficiently. See an example here.

For tracking the statistics of website visitors, I install Google Analytics and provide the website owner with an account to login and view detailed stats of their website. This information is invaluable for ongoing SEO as it allows the website owner to see the performance of different pages and what Google searches were used to get visitors there. For help with this topic I have written A guide to website statistics with Google Analytics.

Lastly, I include a video user guide plugin that provides the website owner with video how-to guides for all the basic WordPress functions such as editing pages, adding images, adding news posts, etc.
